Maine Tide Charts 2012

Are you heading off the coast of Maine on an ocean fishing expedition, or making a quick run to one of Maine's many islands?  Or, just letting the winds take your sails as they may?

Whatever the case, good seamanship dictates that you know how a high tide or low tide may affect your day.

Here in Downeast Maine and in other areas located on the Gulf of Maine, we experience some of the highest tides on earth.  The tidal range increases as you travel from westto east along the coast of Maine starting with a range of 9 feet or so in Kittery to about 19 feet in Eastport.

As you view the tide charts keep in mind that tide forecasts can only predict astronomical tides and cannot take into account the effectof wind, rain, freshwater runoff, and other short-term meteorological events, which may produce unusually high or low tides.
